Roy Mustang sat behind his desk. It was another dark dreary afternoon for Eastern City, the weather report told of rainy weather for the remainder of the week. All the Flame Alchemist could do was curse silently underneath his breath because of this small mishap. The rain was only a constantly annoying reminder of his unsettling weakness for anything wet. Emitting a loud sigh, Roy leaned back in high backed leather chair and flipped it around to stare out the window. His onyx eyes searched the endless downpour of myraid sheets of rain rapping on the glass of his window. His memories plagued his thoughts once more. As the water outside seemed to gain a yellowish glow and flames licked up visible through the large glass window behind Roy's desk. He blinked and than the illusion was gone in a flash, leaving not even a single trace of smoke behind. Running a hand through his raven black hair, the Flame Colonel realized that he had to get his act together soon or else these silly illusions would win in conquering his life.
For the third time today Hawkeye had disappeared in the midst of a characteristically crazy day at the office. She had taken with her the large pile of paperwork that had been transfered from the 'IN' pile to the 'OUT' pile by Roy himself, with the Lieutenant's urging nonetheless. Her prescence now, or rather absent thereof could be seen throughout the office. The staff had now taking to making personel phone calls using the office's secure lines, doodling on paperwork and themselves, turning on and off the lights, and dozing on nearby furniture. Mustang himself had a large stack of paperwork set in front of him on his desk, that was now largely decorated with assorted pictures of all kinds. He knew that Hawkeye wasn't going to be happy, which was the reason why he intended to take cover the moment that the woman walked through the door. But for now all seemed safe, which was why, Roy was hanging around and staring out the window.
The rain outside slapped the pavement with an amazing amount of force as it fell faster towards the hard ground. The window was now smeared with water from the freshly fallen rain, and Roy could barely see out of it anymore. The flourescent lighting of Eastern HQ cast a mirror of itself through the window that was now obscured by the falling rain. Roy could clearly see his reflection through the window. A middle aged, handsome looking man stared back at him. Dark eyes moved to meet those in the window, as he ran his hand again through his unkept black hair tossling it a little.
So bored. Nothing to do. Where is Hawkeye when I her need to force me to do something?
Roy only now could hoped to be disturbed, in fact he was counting on it. There was no lack of what anyone here needed from him. It was like he was always doing something. Except maybe for today.

Footsteps could be heard approching the room,a certain state alchemist was making his way towards Roy's office. But the military base of all places, this place had tighter security then Fort Knox.Rain dripped from his hair, jacket and the rest of his clothes and soon enough he came to stop at the door thinking for a few minutes if he should knock or not.
A grin spread across his features though,it was raining outside so chances are the Colonel was in a bad mood. But another thing was he couldn't use fire, which was even better...and he wouldn't use his alchemy indoors now would he.Edward was simply dropping off some documents,a small report as some would like to call it then head somewhere else for the day.
It was so odd though, usually he would hear the familiar voice of Lieutienat Hawkeye. Was she was not in the room at the momment,oh well there was only one way to find out and that was to open the door.Reaching with one hand for the knob, the young alchemist slowly opened the door and peeked inside.
"Uh Colonel are you busy,I can come back later if you want me to".

Roy had been swaying back and forth on his glossy leather office chair complete with rolling wheels. It was definitely one of his most prized possessions in his very drabbly decorated office that severely lacked the personal touch of anyone. The "Iloveme" wall was even absent from the tiny office which seemed to lack everything including space not to mention color. The creak of the door falling open startled the Colonel enough to nearly cause him to fall off of said office chair. Luckily having superb balance skills, the Flame Alchemist caught himself before the chair even dared to sway to close to the ground in the wrong direction.
Since when has anyone been bold enough to enter my office without knocking first. Somethings going to fry today.
Roy spun around sharply in his office chair, his glare meeting the fierce golden eyes of Edward Elric. "I didn't know you were tall enough to reach the door knob." Roy said in mock amazement, his expression seemed one of pleasured puzzlement. Just like that all the bad memories and the illusions disappeared for a few moments as his attention was directed elsewhere. It definitely wasn't a good day for him, so it would have been unwise for anyone to test his patience. "It's common courtesy to knock on a door before you open it, Fullmetal." Roy added blandly premediating that initial but brief spasmatic-like attack that Ed frequently endured whenever anyone uttered the word 'short.' It seemed like a defense mechanism as far as Roy could tell. Perhaps it wasn't functioning properly today, that would have been a nice needed change.
Slim chance that I'll get my wish.
"It just so happens that I was in the middle of something. But since you have so courtesily instilled your presence upon me go ahead." The eloquent sarcasm was so prominant now in Roy's tone that it seemed to be none other than his charm behind the manner. A smirk crawled across his lips as he awaited the reaction of the short blonde alchemist, he could only wonder what would happen next.

"WHO YOU CALLING TOO SHORT HE NEEDS A LADDER,why I ought to....".
Damn Mustang he always had some smug remark, and since when did he have to knock.Surprise visits we're Ed's specialty sometimes,he enjoyed catching the flame alchemist off guard at least it was one thing that gave him entertainment. So it was just as he thought, old hot head was alone in his office without Hawkeye present how lovely.
"Don't they have a muzzle for your mouth Colonel, although I swear I heard you say I needed to knock. What's the matter can't stay on your chair,or is the rain just too depressing for your flames today huh".
He gave a grin, proud of what he just said but enough of that.Walking over to the desk,Ed flopped the documents down and turned his back to the Colonel ready to leave. He didn't move though,he wanted to see what Roy's reaction would be to his smug comeback remarks.
"There's my report,I think i'll take my leave".

The explosion still happened, it seemed inevitable in fact, and that was what the Flame Alchemist loved about Edward Elric. Whenever you hit the right spot repeatedly, without fail, the same reaction would always be the response. The smirk grew into a sort of sneer-like expression as Roy seemed satisfied with the results of his taunts directed at the short alchemist.
"Looks like you still need a leash yourself Fullmetal. That stunt you pulled last week almost wiped out a whole populous. You're lucky I still have my job or else you would be nothing more than a very small pile of ashes." Roy's sardonic remark was something that he was trying to use to top Ed's newfound sense of glory in the rain pattering outside.
Damn rain, damn wind, damn water.
There was no doubt that Ed had played his cards right judging by the expression that had flashed across the Colonel's pale face for a split-second. Any mention of the rain was an automatic way to get on his bad side, if it were possible for him to be any worse in a mood than he was right now.
Slap. A small stack of papers thrown together at the last second (what Ed deemed a report) was thrown onto his desk causing a few nearby papers to ruffle. Luckily nothing flew off his desk this time because all the papers had been appropriately weighted with office supplies. Colonel Mustang was always prepared now due to prior occurances that ended in a rather bad way. The papers were fingertip length, but Roy didn't reach for them instead he set the small blonde alchemist with a piercing stare. "Not so fast Fullmetal, you haven't been properly dismissed yet." Ed might have been a dog on a short leash but he was still bound to the military, so maybe Roy had some power over him but not much. Ed always seemed to have a way of thinking for himself.
Now came the fun part, the best part of debriefing Ed, which was getting him to state his report verbatum outloud even though both of them knew very well that Roy already knew the whole thing by heart. Why did he know? Because it was his job to know these things, so he had to bother sometimes. "I want a briefing right now on these pap---- this report." Roy demanded, his tone didn't seem to change as it usually did when he demanded something. His expression had gone from his face now leaving him half wallowing in the depression that had set in due to the bad weather. Roy stared expectantly at Ed, as if waiting for him to start. Hawkeye wouldn't be back for some time so that gave them plenty of time to start and finish this.

A black-haired girl with blue eyes, and wearing a red shirt and a black..miniskirt and black thigh-high socks with black shoes knocked lightly on the door of Colonel Mustang's office, she had files that he had asked for, waiting patiently, she swept a strand of black hair from her face.

"Are you still whining about that incident,it's not my fault some people we're being uncoopertive. They always seem to start trouble for no reason, then the smug comments come about the height thing and you know how much I loathe people comparing me to a ant".
He again faced the Colonel, arms crossed and a frown on his features. He was already soaked and cold, all he wanted to do was find somewhere he could sleep and get dry.At least he didn't have to worry about using alchemy in the pouring down rain.Ed always enjoyed seeing the Colonel squirm,it was something he could always look foreward to when he was called in.
"I need a leash try speaking for yourself,I may be a dog of the military but you agreed to let me do as I wanted within reason.I gave you my report didn't I,isn't it your job to look through those stack of papers and make sure everything is there.Or are you afraid that Lieutienant Hawkeye will catch you slacking off,so you want to talk about a short leash just look at you".
Score one for Ed,unless Roy wanted to come back with something else to pin on him.If it wasn't almost wiping out a entire town,it was stupid things like taking off without permission or doing things he wasn't suppose to stick his nose in.

Resist the temptation..... murder is a crime in this country. Just resist the temptation.
The spark gloves had been pulled on before the unannounced arrival of Edward Elric, maybe because of the rain that had been frequenting the window panes or the painful memories that had been plaguing his mind. Whatever the reason the spark gloves had been pulled on and Roy now found his fingers twitching to snap as he lay them flat in his lap -- or at least attempted to do that.
"That incident almost cost five people their lives, Fullmetal." He was still a kid, he didn't understand what taking a life meant, but than maybe he did more than Roy was giving him credit for. Taking lives meant money, subsidies, reimbursement, mourning, funerals, publicity, all of which Mustang could not stand. It was one thing if it were a funeral of someone that he knew and respected, but some bloody end to a civilian life was the last thing he could have ever asked for. Edward had been lucky, hell the kid was always lucky. He committed a taboo and was still able to come out clean and alive missing only two of his limbs.
The stone, that should convince him.
"You're in no position to judge Fullmetal, I still haven't approved your leave period coming up. I could easily put more on your current load." Less vacation time would mean less time to search for the stone. Roy knew the cards he had now the only thing that he had to do was play them right. "You know very well that it is regulation that I sit here and listen to you complain for an hour about how your present or past mission was a complete and utter waste of time and breath. But you know what Fullmetal, I don't ca---" A sharp knock on the door cut Roy off midsentence, color rose in his checks a deep crimson color a shade that indicated anger.
What the Hell? Well it isn't Hawkeye because she could give a damn about actually knocking.
Roy shot Ed a lethal glance which was enough without him having to say 'Don't move.' "This better be urgent.." Roy muttered underneath his breath, dark onyx eyes shooting towards the unopened door. "Enter." Roy directed his response in a sharp tone at the closed door.

Pheonix shyly opened the door "umm...Colonel?" she said, stepping into the room, blushing a bit "I uh...have those...files you asked me to get.." The miniskirt was dangerously short, but Pheonix didn't care, it was comfortable "perhaps...I should come back another time?" she inquired nervously, seeing that the Colonel was close to anger, she took a tentative step foreward.

Ed was about to comeback with a reply, when Pheonix walked into the room his face flushed a deep red.He turned his gaze away, arms still crossed and shuffling his feet from time to time.Lectures that's all he ever got from Colonel hot head,he knew what it was like to see people die but most of the time these incidents we're caused by those damn sins.
"If you think that look scares me it doesn't".
Truth was he was afraid, when Roy got angry you wanted to be far away.He remembered last time with what happened, the battle between him and Mustang ended up with lot's of casualties and lot's of rebuilding. He wanted to get out of here as quick as possible, but one move and he was BBQed shrimp.

It was just the girl that he had sent to get those files, hadn't that been hours ago? What did it matter the girl's skirt was mesmorizingly short that definitely wasn't military issue and Hawkeye was nowhere to be found. "No, no, just bring them here." Roy offered an outstretched hand and an open palm his mood seemed to have softened a little. Women were his speciality of course.
Someday all women will have to wear skirts like that when I become Furhrer.
The thought was a calming one and Roy's now moody demeanor seemed to fade if only provisionally at the sight of a small mini skirt. Ed's next comment was enough to allow Roy to regain his wits and sharp attitude again. The harmony wasn't bound to last for long anyways, it just wasn't in Roy's nature to be peaceful and relaxed for long. He was restless and that's how things had always been since the day he had been shipped over to Ishbal so many years ago. "Than surely getting no leave time for the next year will scare you." Roy said in a very business like manner. "Your search may not be time-conscience but what you are after could take years to uncover." The statement was a blunt one, he was just dishing out empty threats but than again he did have a reputation to protect. Roy wondered vaguely whether anything that he said actually shook the consceince of Edward Elric, if he in any way was even remotely close to scaring the boy. Scaring him seemed like an almost impossible task, maybe Roy would accomplish just that.
His anger had definitely toned down a bit, he still had an image to protect in the presence of a lady. But than the girl was just a messenger, someone sent to retrieve files and such documents. Since the summons had been so long ago Roy forget exactly what the files were on. Even though military documents were supposed to be forms of precision they never seemed to quite make any sense at all. "What are they on again?" Roy asked politely turning towards the girl, charcoal eyes a gleam.

"No leave time you can't be serious,I said when I joined the military the only reason I did so was to search for the stone and help restore what was lost.I don't care if it takes years,I made a mistake and i'm going to fix it.I don't care if I have to search every source,I will get my brother's body back no matter what".
Edward wasn't going to stand here and take that, shooting a look at the Colonel then taking a few steps foreward he walked towards the door.He had come to do what he needed,so now he was going to take his leave and head off to find more things out about the stone.Giving Phoenix a look as he walked by,the blonde then walked out of the room.
"Stupid Colonel hot head,no leave time i'll show him.Even if i'm a damn dog of the military,no leashes hold me back from the goals I want to accomplish.I've come too far and there is no turning back,I made a promise to Al and I tend to keep it".
Shoving his hands into his pocket,he mumbled something and didn't bother to look over his shoulder to see if he was being followed.

Phoenix blushed at the kind tone Roy used with her, she smiled shyly at him and she handed them to Roy "...They're on what you wanted" she said quietly "Any info about the Fuhrer...so that you can become it..." she smiled "..I hope you find what you're looking for Colonel" she bowed softly and stepped back.
